To become a skilful and competent trainer, one needs to grasp well the pedagogy of adult learning and its key principles. This is to ensure that the trainer is able to deliver the training programme on derivatives market effectively for any level of audience. What makes a good trainer? Among the characteristics of a good trainer is having able to communicate well, a problem solver and passion about learning. Learning styles indicate the most effective methods of instruction that caters for various types of learners which comprise of different styles - visual, auditory and kinesthetic.

A trainer needs to understand the classic model for training design process abbreviated as ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation) that consists of a 5-step process. Each of the process describe the actions needed to design and develop training content to suit the training objective of derivatives market. A trainer needs to be aware of the situations and personas that may be encountered during a training session. Maintaining the interest of the audience during a training session can be challenging, hence, the trainer needs ensure variety of delivery styles like engaging the audience with stories, questions, games, or group participation. In evaluation the audience learning experience and trainer’s training delivery, the Kirkpatrik 4 level model serves as the gold standard for evaluating training. This model comprises of 4 levels beginning from Reaction (Level 1) to Reaction (Level 4) which measure performance metrics and compares it with control groups.

In keeping abreast with the digitalisation of learning, a trainer needs to be skilful in virtual learning. The Covid-19 pandemic has shifted the traditional learning to virtual learning where a face-to-face training is no longer the only and effective method of training. However, a trainer needs to address the challenges in conducting virtual learning that is more prone to be exposed to distractions. Methods such as having activities, surveys and break out rooms can keep the audience captivated. Nevertheless, going digital is the new reality and trainers need to embrace this new era of technology and the new norm.
